Sitting Pretty was founded in 2009 in Cape Town by Emma Londgen.
The brand had a flagship store on Long Street for 4 years, which closed in 2014, as it was not the direction that Emma wanted to be pursuing as a designer. The brand was reinvented and rebranded to align with Emma’s own desire to create stylish garments that are ethically produced and have an environmental awareness, this being of utmost importance to her .
The brand mixes different genres and styles, playfully juggling together ethnic silhouettes, masculine tailoring and sportswear codes, with a sweet dash of rock ’n‘ roll and a hint of romantic aesthetics.
A combination of bohemian chic and urban sophistication, the collections are characterized by soft tones and light, loose cuts, embodying a cosmopolitan feel and a controlled nonchalance. Striving to conceive simple and relaxed pieces, playing as much with materials as with colour and prints, offering a kind of understated chic with a twist of sexiness and originality.
Environmentally awareness, ethical trading and integrity underpin the label’s philosophy, choosing to manufacture locally using small women’s factories in Cape Town. Sitting Pretty is particular about sourcing natural fibres and does not mass produce. The focus is on style, garments that last, as opposed to fast fashion.
Contemporary and stylish, in a simple, unassuming way, with a decidedly feminine aesthetic, Sitting Pretty clothes strive to transcend trends and to become well worn favourites that help her follower to self-express and play with their style.
