Maiko is Japanese and translated as “little dancer“. This influence is easily visible in “maiko’s“ designs, which are full of playful details and flowing cuts, expressing emotions. It only seems natural that music, dance, literature, and painting are among Maiko’s sources of inspiration.

Maiko is Japanese and translated as “little dancer“. This influence is easily visible in “maiko’s“ designs, which are full of playful details and flowing cuts, expressing emotions.

Maiko Sakurai Karner was born in Vienna, Austria, to a Japanese mother and Austrian father. In her family where art was an omnipresent issue, Maiko soon discovered fashion design as her true calling and approach.

Another meaning of “Maiko” is “young Geisha”, which can be translated as “artist”. Geishas were considered as the incarnation of Japanese art forms. It only seems natural that music, dance, literature, and painting are among Maiko’s sources of inspiration.

The “maiko” logo, a cherry blossom, signifies the family crest of the designer and her Japanese surname: Sakurai.

The label represents the designer’s origin, as it points out her Eurasian descent, her Japanese and Austrian background makes maiko stand out.

“maiko” displays her works annually at exhibitions and trade fairs in Austria like the “International Design Fair Blickfang” and the famous Viennese “Brand New Expo Modepalast”.

Furthermore “maiko” has planned and organised a variety of fashion shows to provide her creations with the perfect setting.

Exchange is another aspect in” maiko´s” philosophy. As a result, she collaborated with numerous Austrian artists transcending the borders of fashion design to graphics and illustrations.

This label sets out to combine innovative designs with urban zeitgeist, high comfort, providing its wearer with a feeling of uniqueness.

“maiko” is determined to increase her presence in markets throughout Europe, since her fountain of creativity is still not running dry.
