Alexandra Dohmen was born in and influenced by stunningly beautiful Paraná, Brazil where the natural vistas of mountains, ocean and colourful birds etched their images in her psyche. She journeyed to the ancient and romantic city of Maastricht where she chose to study at the Academy for Fine Arts and Design and then the Akademie Vogue in Amsterdam. Seeking mentors, she then went on to learn from the famous Berlin-based designer duo Unrath & Strano.
One of her designs, based on the clothing worn traditionally in the Zuiderzee region, was exhibited at the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen. She won second place in the Bernina design contest with a miniature version of a traditional Staphorst costume. Alexandra Dohmen was also one of the nominees of the Krefeld FashionWorld competition with a design inspired by traditional Schaumburger garb. In 2013 she was selected for the Dutch Fashion Meets Marrakech Contest. In a dazzling show, she and nine other designers were allowed to show their collections on the catwalk in marvelous Marrakech, the kaleidoscope of colour, aromas and stories.
Also in 2013 she participated with one of her designs ‘The Vision of Saint Servatius’ in an exhibition in the Museum aan het Vrijthof organized by FashionClash Maastricht. In 2015 she participated in the Now Art Fair Eindhoven and in the Mercedes Benz Cologne Fashion Days.
She is inspired by traditional costumes, but is also intrigued by you as an individual. Sensitive to your personality, your occasion and your budget, she looks forward to working together on a piece as unique as you. Contact her today, or as soon as you’re ready to dare.
